Translation
Bookletty supports 22 languages out of the box. This page explains how translation works, what gets translated, and what stays in the original.
Supported languages
English, Spanish (ES and Latin American), French, German, Italian, Portuguese (PT and Brazilian), Russian, Chinese (Simplified), Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Hebrew, Hindi, Turkish, Polish, Dutch, Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, Finnish.
RTL languages (Arabic, Hebrew) render with proper right-to-left layout in both the editor and the final PDF.
How translation works
- Pick a language tab where you already have content (your source)
- Click Translate — a dropdown lets you choose:
- Translate to selected languages — only the tabs you've already added
- Translate to all 22 languages — fill every language at once
Bookletty uses Mistral AI for translation by default, with Ollama as a fallback. Results are cached by content hash — if you translate the same text twice, the second call is instant.
Sync vs background mode
- On the Free plan, translation runs synchronously — you wait for the job to finish
- On Starter and Pro, translation runs in the background — you can keep editing while it processes
What doesn't get translated
Some fields are never sent to the translator because translating them would break functionality:
- URLs, image paths, filenames
- Phone numbers, email addresses, website URLs
- Wi-Fi network names and passwords — these are connection credentials, not text
- Prices — numeric values are kept as-is (currency formatting follows the locale)
This is a safety feature. If you paste a URL into a field and translate, the URL comes out intact.
Quality and review
Machine translation is very good for structured, short content like menus and welcome text. For sensitive copy (legal disclaimers, safety instructions) we recommend reviewing the output — click the target language tab and edit inline.
Bookletty will never overwrite your manual edits with future auto-translations.
